Historic

An excellent introduction to the great war, the Verdun Memorial is located at the heart of the battlefields and is among the principal European Great war museums.

Created in 1967, under the patronage of Maurice Genevoix, an Academic and War Veteran, this historic and sanctuary of remembrance bears witness to the commitment and suffering of French, German and American soldiers having fought between 1914 and 1918 in this key sector of the Western Front.

The museum area has an abundance of elements and is set around a striking reconstitution of the battlefields. Planes, vehicules, heavy arms and weapons and uniforms all illustrate the war "industry"; personal belongings and handicraft evoke men's daily life in the trenches. Educational exhibitions and themes, films, photographs, lithographs and period posters encourage thought on social, economic and cultural aspects.

A ressource centre and educational department from a research area, open to everyone , where ideas and opinions can be exchanged and transfer of knowledge is possible.
