The Battlefield of Verdun still bears the scars of the terrible fighting that took place there during the First World War. Yet Verdun, a town so badly damaged in 1916, has succeded in preserving its radiance behind the shelter of the walls of its Citadel and this is still obvious today – just take a stroll along the banks of the Meuse.
Morning: visit the town at your leisure, including the Underground Citadel, or the Dragées Braquier factory (sugared almonds).
- Lunch in a restaurant in Verdun.
Afternoon: guided tour of the battlefields, the visit is conducted in a coach and visitors are accompanied by a guide. The tour will include the Fort Douaumont, Verdun Memorial Museum, Douaumont Ossuary and the Bayonet Trench.
